Jello shots with whip pans?
« on: July 28, 2009, 02:26:28 PM »
I'm thinking of picking this camera up eventually for some very odd shooting where I would use this camera at VERY high speeds, both physically and with the frame rate.

Could anyone tell me if I could expect much oddness in the video when this camera is whipped around at high speed....As I understand it this "jello" in the shots is experienced on almost all CMOS cameras, but I'm just not sure if this exists, or if it does, how bad it will be at 300fps.

When I'm talking fast physically......I MEAN IT, lol.

my whip pans would be somewhere in the range of 500mph I believe...if I've done the math right...LOL

I still am not totally sure of this, but I did find atleast one review where someone said that the EX-F1 doesn't suffer from the rolling shutter problems that alot of other cameras have. I also found that here - http://www.exilim.com/intl/ex_f1/other.html it mentions:

Best Shot No. 23
Shooting a panning image where the subject is clearly in focus against a blurred background normally requires a high level of technique to move the camera correctly. The EX-F1 makes panning images as easy as selecting a function that shoots a number of High-speed CS images and then combines them into a final image with the subject in the center against a blurred background. The result is a beautiful panning image that presents an impression of dynamic speed.

I don't own this camera yet, so I can't say how succesful this technique is, but it definitely sounds interesting.
